Purpose of Certification:
Acquiring firefighting and prevention knowledge related to hazardous materials and extrication.
Who it applies to?
Anyone wishing to practice firefighting services for a population of fewer than 200,000 people or already performing such services.
Effective since 2004, the Regulation respecting the conditions governing the exercise of functions within a municipal fire safety service makes provisions for certification requirements for firefighters who work for municipal fire safety services based on the size of the population being served. Advanced training received from Firefighter 2 will allow you to safely service your community while everyone can benefit from your knowledge. Please note you need to successfully complete the course Firefighter 1 before proceeding to Firefighter 2.
This training program includes:

- Learning how to lay out a fire intervention plan
- Wide-surface building intervention techniques
- Coordination of 1 or multiple emergency response units
- Protection and gathering of fire origin factors during an intervention
- Assistance of a special operation unit
- Vehicle extrication techniques
- Hazardous material intervention procedures
- Control of a fire involving combustible gas
This training program is presented in 3 segments
Part 1:
Course 1: Firefighter 2 responsibilities
Course 2: Equipment, apparatus and tools
Course 3: Specialized operation procedures
Course 4: Wide-surface buildings
Course 5: Prevention activities
Course 6: Intervention procedures, indoor fires
Course 7: Intervention procedures, emergency response unit
Part 2:
Course 8: Intervention procedures, hazardous materials
Part 3:
Course 9: Vehicle extrication
Benefits of Certification
By completing the Firefighter 2 training program you will be able to service any population in Quebec of fewer then 200,000 people.
Examination:
Each segment of the Firefighter 2 training program is independently evaluated.
Successfully completing Part 2 will provide you with a certification in Hazardous Materials Operations.
Successfully completing Part 3 will provide you with a certification in Vehicle Extrication.
Successfully completing all 3 segments of the training program will provide you with a Firefighter 2 certification.
Time and date of your examination period will be provided by your teacher.
